Binge Drinking May Damage Teens’ Brains

A new MRI-based study shows that when teens go on a binge drinking episode, they may be doing serious damage to the sensitive “white matter” in their brains. This means that damaged caused to the developing brain by bouts of heavy drinking could affect thinking and memory, even lowering school performance. (more…)

I am like millions of people, writing this and watching the finale of ER. One of the story lines was about a teenager who was admitted with alcohol poisoning. The fifteen-year-old had been participating in a drinking game with vodka and Kool-aid and was brought to the ER in a coma, near death and with a blood alcohol level off the charts! (more…)

Binge Drinking

College football is in the air and with the season comes the ritual of pre-game tailgates and post-game celebrations. As a parent of college-aged children one of the biggest concerns of the fall is also binge drinking. Watching televised football games this season only reinforced concerns as every other ad seemed to be alcohol related and really geared to the humor of an adolescent, they were definitely not targeting a middle aged woman.
